OVERCOMING FEAR

  Elements of Fear

Elements of fear are anxiety, doubt, restlessness, anger, depression and fatigue. When God is with us fear is non existent. Gideon was afraid and God gave him a sign. The sign was a dream that he would be victorious in battle. He believed God was with him and he got supernatural confidence.

I was reading Zephaniah with my sister and it was so encouraging. It was reminding us not to be afraid. Our future is in God's hands. Trust in Him.

Zephaniah 3:15 " .........The Lord, the King of Israel is with you never again will you fear any harm. ............He will quiet you with his love."

Jesus Calms the Storm (Mark 4:35-41)

Another story that comes to mind is when Jesus calms the storm. The disciples were afraid when the storm came and Jesus said, "Quiet! Be still!” The storm is symbolic of fear. When fear attempts to take our space the Lord says, "Quiet! Be still!” and there is sudden calmness.

"Then the wind died down and it was completely calm." This line illustrates how the Lord brings complete calmness. The storm (fear) was no more and there was sudden peace.

Look to God to overcome fear completely. We can find rest in Him.

Lessons from Gideon

From a humble background, God chose Gideon. Gideon's clan was one of the weakest and he was the least in his family. God chose him to defend the Israelites from their enemies (Midianites)

God loves the underdog. When the underdog excels he gets the glory and people learn to trust him. God knew his potential. God was always with Gideon. The war might have been Gideon's but the battle was the LORD'S.

With a reduced army from 32000 to 300 he triumphed. The Lord wanted to show His might and glory that is why He instructed Gideon to reduce the army. This shows in spite of weaknesses and other shortcomings, if we trust in the Lord we shall be victorious.

When God gives a promise it comes to pass. Gideon needed to see his promise in a dream because of his fear. Once he got assurance from the dream he became courageous and God's spirit gave him confidence. He knew he would win before he even started. Enter any situation with the mindset of winning.

Interpretation of dreams give us revelation that breeds confidence.
